Keep reading and find out about the most valuable writing tools ever made in the world and the most expensive pen brands that can be bought on Amazon.

10 Most Expensive Pens Ever Made

There are so many people who are obsessed with having everything the most unique and exclusive. That’s why unusual and luxurious writing tools are a hit. Let’s look at the 10 most exquisite ones on Earth and find out what is the reason for their great value.

Want to know more about where the rich men spend their money? Read about the most expensive paintings in the world.

$8,000,000 – Tibaldi Fulgor Nocturnus Pen

This unique item from the Florentine master has been sold at a Shanghai auction in 2010 for 8 million dollars. The full name of this truly beautiful pen means “the splendor of night”.

The case is made of 18k gold and platinum, studded with the black diamonds, and decorated with 123 rubies.

The peculiarity of Tibaldi Fulgor Nocturnus is that all parts correspond to the parameters of divine proportion. A symbol of the Tibaldi brand – an eagle – is engraved on the gold nib.

$1,500,000 – Montblanc Johannes Kepler High Artistry Stella Nova (Limited Edition)

Montblanc Johannes Kepler High Artistry Stella Nova

Montblanc manufacturers used 5,294 blue sapphires to create such a gorgeous writing tool. Externally it resembles a telescope. Three gold rings encrusted with 570 diamonds should remind the audience of Three Laws of Planetary Motion by Johannes Kepler. The clip on the cap looks like a compass and sets with a 6.20 carat diamond.

It was created in 2017 in a single copy and costs 1.5 million dollars.

$1,470,000 – Aurora Diamante Fountain Pen

The reason for such great value of this writing accessory is that the company produces only one Diamante per year, thus preserving its exclusivity.

Aurora Diamante

The Aurora Diamante fountain pen was put up for sale in 2009, has a gold 18k nib and is valued at $1.47 million. It is encrusted with 1,919 diamonds with a total weight of 30 carats.

$1,000,000 – Caran d’Ache 1010 Diamonds Pen (Limited Edition)

The Caran d’Ache 1010 Diamonds Limited Edition Fountain pen has an exquisitely designed body of white gold and is decorated with 850 ethically-sourced diamonds. This instrument has a delicately engraved 18k gold nib and contains some of the rarest stones in the world, that’s why it costs $1 million. Truly luxurious, unique and unmatchable, it is one of the most costly of this brand’s writing accessories.

$995,510 – Heaven Gold Pen by Anita Tan

To make this pen, designed in 2010, truly breathtaking Anita Tan used 1,888 of 48 carats diamonds. It’s worth noting, that 161 of them are of brilliant colors. The main special feature of this item is that diamonds make up the crest.

The manufacturer’s main idea is that the gemstones used to create the incrustations should bring out the image of Heaven. There are 43 carats of an ancient deep-green stone Tsavorite that originates from Africa.

Pencils can also be extraordinary and one-of-a-kind. To become familiar with such tools, read this Pentel Sharp Kerry mechanical pencil review.

$730,000 – Montblanc Mystery Masterpiece Fountain Pen

Two luxury houses Montblanc and Van Cleef & Arpels designed a special collaborative edition tool in 2006 that is valued at $730,000.

Montblanc Mystery Masterpiece

The foundation of Montblanc Mystery is made of white gold. The first sample was handmade and encrusted with ruby gemstones, which made the tool look like a blossom.

After the successful release of the first very special edition, companies made three other variations of the Mystery Masterpiece, each one having its own little twist with a selection of other stones, like sapphires or emeralds, combined with the most beautiful diamonds.

$487,000 – Caran d’Ache Gotica Pen

This writing tool will remind its user of Notre Dame De Paris Cathedral with the exquisite design and classic Gothic colors. It was launched in China in 2006, and still remains one of the most expensive pens in the world.

Caran d’Ache Gotica

The body and a cap are encrusted with more than 800 diamonds, which weigh 7.1 carats in total. In addition, this writing instrument is decorated with 72 rubies and emeralds.

$265,000 – Caran d’Ache La Modernista Diamonds Pen

This amazing handmade item was made in 1995, but sold only in 2001 to the unknown collector. It was considered a pen that was the most valuable at the time, sporting 5,072 top-quality wesselton diamonds and 96 exquisite rubies of 32 carats.

Caran d’Ache La Modernista Diamonds

What makes this pen so special is not only the quantity and quality of the gemstones that cover it, and the 18k golden nib. The most important feature is its design, which is dedicated to late Antoni Gaudi, a leader of modern architecture.

$256,000 – Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81 Pen

Montblanc is often the first brand name that comes to mind when we think about luxury fountain pens that are suitable for kings and queens. And indeed, in 2007, the company manufactured a writing tool as a tribute to Prince of Monaco.

Prince Rainier III Limited Edition 81

The body is designed with an intricate skeletonized frame upon which there are 996 diamonds and 92 rubies, with 19 more lining the clip ring. The nib is also made of gold. To additionally pay homage to Prince Rainier, the artwork on the pen represents the Grimaldi coat of arms.

$198,000 – Montblanc Boheme Papillon (Limited Edition)

This collectible is also known as the Bohemian Butterfly and is decorated with 1400 gemstones. There are six variations of this pen, each one encrusted with different selection of premium gemstones and metals.

The barrel of the pen is skeletonized, which gives it a unique appearance. To add to the overall elegance, stones wrap around the body in three levels. The nib, unsurprisingly, is made of 18k gold. The first three tools feature diamonds of 7.21 carats with the addition of 21 carats of sapphires. The other three editions are studded with 840 flawless diamonds and 591 sapphires.
