Spectrum Noir colored pencils

I bet you’ve heard a little about the Spectrum Noir brand. But I’m going to tell you more about it, particularly about Spectrum Noir blendable pencils. These media can be used in any technique going far beyond simple drawing. Let’s jump to the Spectrum Noir colored pencils review, and you’ll find out everything you need to know about these instruments.

Top 6 Spectrum Noir Colored Pencils

Spectrum Noir offers a decent arsenal of stationery tools. But today, I’ll tell you about the colored pencils that obtained the highest score according to the reviews I have examined. And I believe that one of these sets should be in your tool kit. You can see for yourself by looking at the table below.

A quick look at the Caran d’Ache pencils review will help you understand what other alternatives to Spectrum Noir drawing media are. You can compare them and determine what things you should pay attention to.

Features of Spectrum Noir Colored Pencils

The Spectrum Noir ColourBlend pencils are professional-grade wax-based media. They are thicker than media from other collections of this brand. In particular, they feature a 4 mm thick core, which is perfect for various purposes, especially for covering large areas. Thanks to the soft core, these drawing tools are applied and blend nicely on any surface. Besides, they deliver rich colors, velvety texture, and color depth. Such qualities make them ideal for illustration and sketching. On a separate note, the colors remain rich and vibrant thanks to the supreme lightfastness of the pigment. Considering ColourBlend pencils vs Prismacolors, the former is as good as the latter.

Meanwhile, the ColourTint series from Spectrum Noir is also worth considering. The main feature of these media is a graphite core that provides a “muted color.” It is quite a unique yet sought-after effect when the pencil color is close to the natural hue.

The Metallic series is ideal for accenting your objects, adding gloss, and making them more realistic. The media contains water-soluble pigments and can be brushed over to achieve an irresistible effect of luminescent washes. They can be used on any surface, but they show themselves in all their glory on the dark paper.

Speaking of the material, all the pencils are made of wood. According to the reviews, its quality is excellent. It does not splinter or leave jagged edges after sharpening. All the drawing instruments from Spectrum Noir have round barrels. Some media have barrels that correspond to the color of the core, while others don’t, but they have colored ends instead.

Color Chart

Rest assured the color chart of Spectrum Noir media is pretty broad so that you can find the best matching set quite easily according to your needs. Here’s a quick guide to the available color range.

The ColourBlend collection of pencils are divided by colors into several sets. In particular, the Primaries set is designed for basic needs, Naturals and Florals kits are great for drawing nature-related objects, and the Shade and Tone set is ideal for drawing portraits.

Spectrum Noir colored pencils color chart

The ColourTint series comprises 24 colors. They are available in Nature and Primary selections.

The Metallic series comprises only 12 colors, but they are considered auxiliary ones, so they do match any pigment from the previous sets.

On WoWPencils, I have collected lots of useful art tips. Perhaps you haven’t read about how to make maroon with colored pencils. Click the link to find out more.

Design of Packaging

The Spectrum Noir blendable pencils reviewed in this article come in metal tins. The brand offers a decent selection of sets of colored pencils for different purposes. The ColourBlend series comprises 120 drawing tools that are available in 24-pack options. However, the pencils from this line are available as individual pieces, so you can easily add a new one or replace the existing ones if necessary. The ColourTint line is available in 2 sets of 12 colored pencils. As for the Metallic collection, it only comes in a 12-piece pack.

Interested in another alternative to Spectrum Noir blendable media? You may find some decent options in the Prismacolor Scholar colored pencils review.

Quality of Drawing and Durability

All of the pencils from the Spectrum Noir brand are applied nicely. They blend and deliver the necessary effect without any problems. However, since the wax-based drawing instruments have softer cores, they are more fragile and are prone to breakage.

ColourTint pencils that feature a graphite core offer a smooth drawing experience but may chip while working with them.

In terms of durability, it’s hard to predict how long they will last since the quality of the batch may vary greatly. Mainly, all the pencils are quite durable, especially if storing them in proper conditions and preventing them from damage.

Pros and Cons

There are so many aspects of Spectrum Noir pencils to think about, especially if you are considering purchasing one of the reviewed sets or even a full set. That is why I’ve decided to sum up all the pros and cons and present them to you. Hopefully, they’ll help you to make the right decision.

Pros

  • They lay down smoothly
  • They keep the sharp tip nicely
  • The pencils have a wide variety of colors to allow users to bring any idea to life
  • The blending ability is awesome
  • They come in tin boxes that are comfortable to transport

Cons

  • They come unsharpened
  • The cores may be too scratchy
  • Some cores may break

Best Place to Buy Spectrum Noir Colored Pencils

Wondering where to buy the desired set from Spectrum Noir? Lots of people prefer purchasing from big retailers like Walmart and off-line crafts shops such as Hobby Lobby. However, you shouldn’t deny other ways of purchasing art supplies. I mean Amazon, which is famous for its sale campaigns, and eBay where you can find the best price among all offers on the market.

Do you know about the difference between watercolor and regular colored pencils? If not, you are welcome to watercolor pencils vs colored pencils review.

Sum Up

WoWPencils always updates information about various art supplies for artists and designers. This time, my attention was drawn by Spectrum Noir colored pencils. I believe they are underestimated since only a few people know about this manufacturer. And that’s a pity because it has a nice variety of colored pencils that can be applied almost everywhere. So, I strongly recommend you to try one of its sets to make sure that this is true, and I know you’ll love it.
