Features of Koh I Noor Colored Pencils

Koh I Noor is a well-known brand all over the world thanks to its long history and the quality of products it provides. But what features do the colored pencils from this manufacturer have?

The shape of a medium is one of the most significant things, while a majority of users ignore it when purchasing and then become disappointed finding how uncomfortable the pencil happens to be. Luckily, Koh I Noor produces drawing tools of different shapes – round, hexagonal, and triangular – which fit nicely even in a child’s hand.

As for the lightfastness of a pigment, all pencils show a good lightfast rating. The professional-grade tools may have a more permanent colorant, though.

The material of the majority of pencils is traditional – wood. Meanwhile, the brand has the Progresso series of woodless instruments to save our planet.

Any sharpener will work with Koh I Noor drawing tools. But pay attention to the shape of a pencil and make sure that the sharpener you want to buy is suitable.

If you wonder how to use these colored pencils, it is not difficult at all. They will work with any type of media. However, note that aquarelle pigments have a softer core and can be applied in wet and dry techniques. Oil-based tools are also fragile and shouldn’t be used with high pressure applied to them.

Koh I Noor can compete with many famous brands. For instance, you can check the Arteza watercolor pencils review to see what properties of tools are common and different.

Meanwhile, the media with a solid core may have a low ability to blend, but they are more durable. I suggest you examine each set individually since different kits contain different tools with specific properties. Later, a user gets used to them, and there will be no issues with the application.

Color Chart

The color chart of Koh I Noor pencils is wide enough to be appropriate for a particular drawing technique. Depending on the purpose, the set of colors will be different. For example, there is a decent assortment of natural shades for portraits. There are many frequently used shades for regular drawing such as in the Mondeluz set of aquarelle colored pencils or in the series of Polycolor artists’ tools.

Besides, the media have bright pigments. For instance, instruments from the Magic Jumbo Triangular set have a vivid tri-tone core. Meanwhile, aquarelle drawing tools provide the necessary transparency yet saturated colors. On a separate note, there are fluorescent pencils that give vividness to your project.

There is another competitor offering watercolor pencils. To learn more about it, you can visit the Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils review.

Design of Packaging

The packaging of each set can be different. Most artist-grade drawing instruments from Koh I Noor come in a metal box. Meanwhile, some particular series of tools may be available in a cardboard package.

There can be 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72-piece kits. However, the best-selling product is considered a 24 set, which usually includes all the necessary colors. Meanwhile, a set of 72 tools is ideal for professional drawing, and 6 and 12-pencil kits are usually used as great additions to it.

Quality of Drawing and Durability

Koh I Noor colored pencils are quite popular among professional artists. Still, they also attract beginners by their high quality. All the media are nicely applied to any type of paper. Besides, nobody will have any problems with how to blend them, no matter whether they have a soft or solid core.

The durability of the media depends on their type. For instance, oil or wax-based drawing instruments run out of the core faster than charcoal ones because of their fragility. In addition, the storage conditions and whether there are fine sharp tips (they break more often) also influence how long they will last. Generally, all the media work nicely and serve its users for a long time.

In some cases, using colored pencils cannot be enough. That is why you can learn about Copic Ciao vs. Sketch markers to see how they can match Koh I Noor colored pencils.

Pros and Cons

To make sure that these media are worth your attention or to make the final decision, take a look at the Koh I Noor pencils’ advantages and disadvantages. This will give you a full concept of what these tools really are. You can count on only fair facts.

Pros

  • The package is sturdy, so the pencils inside aren’t damaged during transportation
  • They have a comfortable grip
  • They are made from recycled materials
  • Vivid and bright pigments
  • A nice selection of colors

Cons

  • Some sets may contain repeating shades
  • A suitable sharpener for Magic Jumbo pencils may be challenging to find because of their size and shape

Best Place to Buy Koh I Noor Colored Pencils

If you wonder where to buy branded pencils, the official website of the manufacturer is the best place to start with. However, a great alternative is Amazon where you can read lots of reviews of the chosen product before making a purchase. Besides, you can check the desired set either in the online or offline Walmart store. Finally, never forget to visit specialized stores such as Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc. By the way, you can also find an individual color that can replace the one in a set in all the stores mentioned above.

In fact, Koh I Noor is not the only manufacturer of stationery products, especially colored pencils. You are invited to read the review of top colored pencils and compare them with other brands.

Sum Up

The Koh I Noor brand offers decent art media that will nicely work for any project. These colored pencils are an excellent choice if you need bright pigments, smooth application, and an amazing drawing experience. You will surely like them, and they will help you develop your art skills.
