How to draw hips simply

Drawing is one of the best ways to relax and calm down after a stressful day. But what if simple doodling is already quite boring, and you want to learn to depict more realistic things, for example, the human body? Even if you have never tried drawing something similar before – don’t worry. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial where you will find lots of tips on how to draw hips. Moreover, you can apply only a few steps in order to draw separate parts only. Stay in the know about all the art tricks with WoWPencils.

Essential Supplies for Drawing Hips

As usual, before you start working on the picture, you need to prepare all the necessary tools so you can create but not distract yourself by searching the missing instrument. So here you will need some regular devices that you often use in sketching or drawing. Here they are: 2 pencils (HB and B2), a piece of paper or a pad, and an eraser.

If you still don’t have a pencil, or you have a huge difficulty in finding the good one, then the proper information about these tools has never come up to you. Here you can find tips on how to select and interesting things about the best wooden pencils.

Draw Balance Line

Basic line

The first step is always quite significant in producing the whole picture. It’s like a basement for the whole house. Thus, if you make a mistake in this step – you won’t get the result you are expecting. So be accurate and follow each step strictly.

In fact, there is a single line of equilibrium that will work as a center of gravity of the whole picture. Despite the fact that the priority task is to draw the female hips, they won’t be the main part of this project. For more clarity, the hips will be a part of the feminine figure. Thus, you will also see how to draw the other parts of the body such as a waist and arms. And, the outcome will help you identify the proper proportion of the body.

In regards to the basic line, obviously, it should be made with an HB pencil. It will be involved in each step except the last one.

Create Square Area for Pelvis

Square area for pelvis

In order to find the center of the pelvis and later to outline it, you need to make a square slightly lower than the baseline. The square should be of medium size in order to accommodate the major part of the human body on the same sheet of paper.

Add Lines of Body and Shoulders

Lines of body and shoulders

Here you will need to project the waist. Thus, you have to prolong the lines from the hip corners upwards; they will define the shape of the torso. Then, make some curves inwards, and these will form the waist. The upper parts of the lines should bulge in order to form the shoulders. Remember that these lines should be longer than the width of the hips.

Draw Hips and Contours of Figure

Hips and contours of figure

At this stage, you will need to make the realistic contours of a woman. No matter what her pose, the shoulders and hips will always stay the widest parts. The pelviс area along with the lines of the torso and shoulders are the reference point in the picture of the proportional and realistic body.

Illustrate Hands

Hands illustration

Hands are an integral component in achieving the most realistic image. In this case, let’s do them with bent elbows, and don’t forget to narrow them down in wrists. The left wrist is on the waist, while the other one is resting and touches the hip.

Complete Legs Drawing and Remove

Legs drawing and remove

This step implies completing the legs. As you might have already guessed, the legs are divided into two parts: the thigh (from the bottom of the pelvis to the knee) and the shin (from the knee to the ankle). The same as with arms, don’t forget to narrow the legs down from the upper to the lower parts. Since the hips are the main section of the drawing, skip the upper and lower parts of the body.

Add Volume Through Shading

Adding shadows

In order to finish this project and make it nice, apply some strokes. For this purpose, the most appropriate tool is a B2 pencil. The darkest strokes are applied to dark sections, while the light ones – to light parts around the whole figure. You should also add more volume, so apply some strokes to the wrist curves, under the knees. Generally, the protruding parts are the lightest ones.

The more delicate effects in drawing a girl might appear quite sophisticated. Luckily, these consequences can be achieved with regular tools such as erasers. And if someone told you that there isn’t a perfect eraser, then you should be acquainted with the top erasers in order to prove that it’s not true!

In Conclusion

Every person constantly wants to try something new in their life. Art is the common thing that people usually are interested in, especially drawing the human body or its parts. However, this might be quite challenging, so to-be artists should learn more about body structure, its shape, and specific curves.

Hopefully, this guide is full enough to help you with this tough task. And, as a result, you will be able to deal with depicting the hips along with the other parts. If you haven’t tried yet – good luck! It will work!
